Bad Anatomy

Our poor kiddos have been un-lucky with their ear, nose, and throat anatomy. All but James have had serious issues with these body parts. Megan had to have her tonsils an adenoids removed at about 2 1/2 years of age. And unfortunately our Trey-dog has followed her lead and yesterday had his tonsils and adenoids removed and tubes put in his ears. These are the before pictures! Cambree also had tubes put in her ears.

Thankfully they ha a playroom. Our kids tried out every toy there. Of course the surgery schedule was a tad bit behind!

 Trey loved this little vacuum!

Aren't the little gowns cute?! Cambree kept pulling hers up, just like she does with her dresses.

Things have changed since we had Megan's tonsils out. Now a parent can go to the OR until the kiddo is asleep. This is the get-up I got to wear. Unfortunately no one was available to take a similar photo of Clay in his outfit! James thought this was hilarious. Cambree went first because she was the youngest-I went with her.

The above picture is Cambree after her tubes. She ate pudding, a popsicle and had some water. She seemed good!

Above photo is of Trey after he finally woke up from his anesthesia-it took about double the time for him to wake up. The nurses were starting to get concerned and encouraged me to wake him. I informed them that I have enough kids to know that you NEVER wake one up!!! I wasn't concerned, I knew he was just tired. Eventually he did wake up and he was fine-well all things considering.
He did great! The plan was to stay the night. He went up to his Pediatric room and ate a bowl of mac-n-cheese, drank a powerade, ate chicken strips, a PB&J, and 2 cookies. We walked around the unit all afternoon, alternating between the little tykes car and a wagon. He couldn't/wouldn't take a nap. There was far too much noise and different things to continually ask "What's that?" The doctor came in and we asked if we could come home. She agreed. At this point, the pain started kicking in. Poor guy cried for several hours off and on. Refused to swallow-even his spit. But we still came home. Hoping that everyone would sleep better at home. I think it was a good plan, but neither Trey nor mom got much sleep last night. He was restless, in pain, and nothing seemed to comfort him. We kept on giving him his meds whenever he could have them and this morning he spent most of the morning outside playing. He is eating fair and drinking ok. Hopefully we can have a better night tonight.

The doctor said Cambree's ears looked pretty yucky and it was a good thing we got her tubes. We are happy and hopeful we won't have constant ear infections any longer. Trey's report was similar. His ears were full of fluid and he had seriously nasty tonsils. We saw them. They were each about the size of a standard bouncy ball. Hopefully he will stop puking regularly and will be far less sick too. Recovery isn't fun, but the end result will be worth it. We love Dr. Beck and are so happy that she would perform these procedures on both of our kiddos. Side note-Trey never actually had a formal appointment with the office. I taggged him along on Cambree's appointment and asked if it would be possible to get tubes for Trey also. Doctor agreed and with the pre-surgery physical from the PA he observed that Trey's tonsils were rather large. Asked a variety of questions. One of which was does he vomit? I laughed out loud at that. Anyone who knows Trey knows he is a serious puker. He has puked on nearly every inch of this house. Gross I know, but we just figured it was him. Anyhow, long story short. The PA thought it would be good to get the tonsils out. I didn't even flinch-yes he is only 28 months, but I knew he would be better without them. Now we just recover-then we will see if maybe we can eat a meal without him puking!
